Surprise, it was great. Double surprise, dealers still suck.
Went to test drive an Abarth they have on their online inventory. It was “out on loan for the rest of the day”, whatever that means. So he sits me in a loaded up Lusso.
I realize I’m stepping out of a 12 year old Chrysler but it felt good. Interior was a bit tighter but still had enough headroom and perfect leg room for me at 6'. Honestly, with the top up visibility was better than my car. Had enough torque so I didn’t need to be rev’d out. Seats felt really snug in the shoulders actually. And interior storage really is that bad.
Afterwards he asked why I wanted an Abarth, I said “LSD, louder, its the only manual you have”. His response was “well actually its not any louder” and then said If I would buy the Abarth he could have it back by the end of the day, they closed in a half hour. So clearly someone from the dealer just took it home.
Anyways I’ll go drive a Miata soon, used Clubs are around $25k now and then a S2000. But I could definitely see myself in a 124 soon.

I want something reliable and/or with a warranty. Japan still does it best.

lol at “If you want to buy, I can have it back here” Right, because he’s doing you a favor by having the car in inventory. Never mind he’s asking you to agree to buy a car sight unseen that he and all his buddies have been thrashing around for the last few days.

Egg-zactly. And if it really wasn’t any better, as he originally tried to tell me. Why would that be the one employees are out driving and not one of the 5 regular ones you have on the lot?

I don’t think I could ever go back to that 2-seater life, but if I could I’d seriously consider a 124 Abarth.
Although a crossfire SRT-6 is also on that list.

A SRT6 would be considerably faster, but auto only. I just want a newer car, some cool noises and to rallycross.

Yea, I want to buy one from carmax with a warranty before they get too old for them to carry them. Soon I’ll see the Fiats there as well.
I’m kinda in the same boat. But I know that I’m going to need a utility vehicle as well. And I’d rather buy that first and have it for a long time, as sort of an “ol’ reliable” sort of thing, with my “fun” cars be changed kinda frequently.
I know that I will be rallycrossing the 7-series at least once. I did one in the Crossfire, too.

I am anti-practicality for as long as I can be. But thats probably the smart move. The idea of a used 124 is the only reason I’m not in love with the idea of a new 124 though. Probably will depreciate like the 500.

Yea I honestly hope it will. Good news about the Miata is that it won’t depreciate as much.
What I’ve heard from owners is that the 124 makes a better DD but the miata is a much better sports car
